Runner #8 Linda
“Running has given me the chance to live a happier, healthier, disease-free life.”
Linda has struggled with weight her whole life. She’s been up and down – she would do well and then something would throw her off track and the weight would come back.
Linda went to the doctor for her annual physical and there were a couple issues. One concern was her blood pressure. At nearly 38 years old and weighing 229 pounds at 5′ tall, she wasn’t surprised. Her mother had quadruple bypass at the age of 61, and she WASN’T obese. At the pace she was going it would only be a matter of time before Linda faced the same fate and the thought of leaving her children too soon terrified her. She was tired of feeling exhausted and looking terrible and was no longer content to be a “spectator” in her own life.
On August 17, 2009, Linda committed to a healthier lifestyle. She ate less and moved more. A ‘Biggest Loser’ fan, she watched for inspiration. After watching the marathon episode, her husband posed a simple question, “Would you ever run one?”
She was no where near the shape to run a marathon, but the IDEA of running a marathon intrigued her, she added it to HER bucket list.
Once Linda started taking care of herself, she kept on thinking about it. So, after losing about 40 pounds, she started going to the track. Her husband would go and proudly support her. On June 5, 2010, she ran/walked her 1st 5k. She would go on to run many more and is currently training for her first half marathon.
Linda credits running and the use of “My Fitness Pal” to her successfully shedding 75 pounds.
